We have made new friends this year, friends who live in Tennessee, but share so much in common. We joked that the Lord had to put the dots real close together so we wouldn’t miss it…so we have the same names. But it’s not just our names. It’s our love of family, of the home, of generational faith.
We first met Rory and Rebecca one year ago when we road tripped to Tennessee. And based on a conversation Rebecca and I had during that visit, she invited me back to speak at the Homemaker’s Conference she organizes. We met up again in Texas, and then the day we put out the invite to our book launch party, we saw their names pop up on the registration page. What a super fun surprise!
So they drove the 14 hours from Tennessee and stayed with us the whole weekend and we feasted.
And we played.
And figured out how to sled in April.
And read a lot of books.
And worked.
And sang.
And baked.
And took a few after-dinner walks.
The second night I climbed into the hide-a-bed in our living room I said to my Rory, “this bed sure is something special.” Meaning, it’s not the most comfortable thin mattress with metal bars in terrible places… Rory Feek was sleeping in Abel’s room and Rebecca stayed in our bed. Rory’s reply was so fast and wonderful, “It is special isn’t it? If we’re in this bed that means something special is happening in our home.”
