Hilling the potatoes

There’s a step with gardening potatoes that involves mounding dirt up around the stems of the plants once they reach a certain height. For the life of me, I can’t remember why. I think it has something to do with keeping the potato tubers covered from sunlight, which can ruin them. Or maybe its to keep the vines from flopping over.

Regardless, I know I’m supposed to do it and it was weighing on me like a ton of bricks.

Now that the chore is done, I’ll go look up why I did it.
