Well, we had a great one day of winter. Since we’re going on our second not-actually-all-that-wintery-winter, this forecast for lots of snow and very high winds had us thrilled. I got hot chocolate and marshmallows the day before so we’d be all set and then planned to go no where. That was a good plan.

The storm began with a ton of rain the evening before, that then turned to ice and then to sticky snow. When we woke up in the morning we looked out the window, but couldn’t see a thing. The windows were covered in snow, just like the van.

The kids played outside nearly the whole day. They found big drifts to dig in and if you were out of the wind, it wasn’t terribly cold. But the wind had a bite. (Apparently a trash can can be used as a wind break.)

Abel came out in the afternoon and confirmed that he still doesn’t like playing in the snow. On the flip side, Elsie discovered today that she loves skiing. She got cross country skis from my Aunt Annie and Uncle Ed this past weekend- a perfectly timed hand-me-down!

The world was a wonderland and we soaked it in. This weekend it is supposed to hit 45, so we’ll ski again today, build forts, and watch it melt away. But I have hope for another storm this season. It’s good for the land and it is good for the soul.
