A week ago we hosted a book release party for The Family Economy up in our barn. The fun of all of these events is that they are congruent with the ideas in the book: our girls made cookies, we all cleaned and prepped the room and this time we had another family help us decorate, bake and set the stage for an incredible night together. Having another whole family help us plan the night was so wonderful- everyone’s gifts were used and needed. Thank you Otis’!
Something really wild happened at this event though. The friends who signed up to help us celebrate all showed up, and there was a ton of history in that room. It was wild. My nephew arrived and found his former boss standing right there. The sister of a dear friend of mine showed up. I guess it doesn’t really work to write it all out, but the contacts and connections were incredible and left me feeling quite confidently that the Lord is connecting families.
Rory and I both spoke, sharing our testimony of how impossible a family economy felt for us, just five years ago. He had found a letter he had sent to a friend asking for specific prayers. And each one of those prayers has so clearly, but uniquely, been answered. It really is a wonder. God is able.
We had both grandma’s there to celebrate, and in a fun surprise, one of the event registrations that rolled in was our friends Rory Feek and Rebecca Lamb from Tennessee. They came up for the whole weekend to help us celebrate and made for a super special visit. Rory Groves asked if he’d sing a song he had sang the night before for us about family and the blessing of a long lasting marriage vow.
It was one of those nights that filled us up to the brim. Rory and I stood in the kitchen until late into the night, rehashing the whole thing, filling each other in on great conversations and special connections with friends, old and new.
